The Prodigal Returns

Long time no see, eh? I just returned from a trip to Michigan – my former home that I often long for. Sometimes the place where one grew up becomes the only place that makes sense to them…even if it made absolutely no sense for the greater part of their life.

Anyway, despite the fact that I took  the most portable of my art supplies with me, I didn’t find the time to do any real work with them. I was mostly only able to focus on photography. I used to, quite literally, carry my camera (Prudence) everywhere with me. When I had to start schlepping a diaper bag and all the other accoutrement of motherhood, Prudence was often left behind.

I am slowly finding the ability to include my camera in more of my outings. Occasionally, I even manage to salvage a little scrap of time to shoot by myself without having to keep one eye on my subject and the other on my son (who, more often than not, is my subject now).

During my trip, I was able to get away for a day to drive around the Grand Traverse area in northern Michigan doing whatever I wanted (read: wine-tasting, gallery browsing, and shooting – the latter being what I spent the most time on). I really do miss working with my camera, so in an effort to motivate myself to do more of it, I am starting a 365. I’m also hoping that this will keep me committed to blogging at least once a day. Now, I’ll be the first to admit that I tend to lose interest in things after awhile, so don’t be surprised or disappointed if my 365 turns into a 180. Heh.
